The Ring O Bells Folk Club (Pit Lane, Widnes Tuesdays 8.30- 11.30) is hosting an afternoon event at Norton Priory, Runcorn, billed in the programme as 'Wandering Minstrels'. Performers will be able to wander the rooms and grounds solo, or in groups, bursting into song or verse for the amusement of the visitors to the Priory. There are many grassy seated areas and woodland glades suitable for this.
If the weather is not kind, there is ample room in the undercroft, where there is a stage, and a small p.a., and this will be held in folk club style. There is also an upper viewing room, which can be utilised, as well as the St. Christopher room at the entrance. The cafe will be left as a safe refuge, without performers.
Performers enter free by displaying the badge provided by Jean Finney. Friends and relatives wishing to come along will display the badge 'Minstrel's Friend" at £1.00 each, prepaid, via Jean.
In order to distinguish the performers from the visitors, we have decided to dress up.
No particular theme is required, but here are some suggestions.
The event will be advertised by the local papers, Folk Orbit (special entry price 2 for 1 with the mag), and, hopefully, Folkscene on Merseyside. The Ring o Bells club will take advantage of the publicity, and any performer wishing to publicise their availability for bookings, please feel free.
Anyone wishing to perform or come as a "Minstrel's Friend" please contact Jean Finney:
